Manual occupations are rapidly vanishing, and change is accelerating. For example, driverless cars may soon disrupt the transportation business. But physical occupations aren’t the only ones at peril.

- As many as 30% of jobs will be replaced by automation, especially the boring and repetitive ones. 1.5 million people in England are at high risk of losing their jobs to automation, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
- We’re at risk of losing 375 million jobs worldwide by 2030. 14 to 80 million U.S. jobs are at risk of being automated. The Brookings Institution estimated that 36 million workers will lose their jobs because of AI (Artifical Intelligence).
- World Economic Forum says machines will create 58 million new jobs.

Even with current technology, 25% of all employment in the US is at danger of automation. If a computer programme can perform your work faster and more correctly, you won’t be around for long. And as technology advances, that number will climb.
People like physicians and attorneys may seem safe, but that isn’t the case.
While the top attorneys and physicians are likely to stay in practice for a long time, many of their peers may not.
The technology is poised to take over a large section of many law firms and revolutionize how law is performed.
Even creative jobs like writing newspaper articles are threatened by AI.
There is, however, some positive news to share with everyone. It’s still too early for computers to think as humans do.
Humans will still be needed to generate ideas and edit content, which is the fluid side of creativity for humans. While much progress has been made in this area, jobs like graphic design and video creation aren’t yet ready for automation.
The safe occupations all involve a mix of empathy, inventiveness, and problem-solving innovation. These are the main motivations of creative thought.
The next decade and beyond will need so-called “soft skills” like empathy and creativity.

We all know what Amazon did to booksellers, Netflix to Blockbuster, and the iPhone to Nokia, but there’s more to it than that.
Avoid being the next Blockbuster. Instead blast your creativity and innovation into your career space. Almost all 21st century success stories are very creative and innovative . The list of the world’s most valuable firms, all of which are very innovative, is a perfect example.
